I will certainly miss your husband and his thoughtful and insightful comments at book club. When he reviewed "Water for Elephants " and said he believed the old gentleman was dreaming at the end when he was being "adopted" by the circus owner the book became creditable to me. This must have been a terrible shock to you and your family not to mention a huge loss. I am so sorry. You are in my prayers. Anne Bennett

Phyllis, Please accept my sincere condolences. Doug and I enjoyed our visits both at the Y and at the library. Selfishly, I feel like we had just scratched the surface of what was sure to be an always insightful and thought provoking friendship. Doug will be missed by so many people. Good guys are a great gift. God Bless. Cookie

I knew Doug through attending the book club at Olean Public Library. I will always remember him for his straight forward, often funny, decidedly "unique " points of view. The last time I saw Doug was at the May 18th book club meeting and he told me a story about what he considered a "miracle" that had happened to one of his neighbors. It seems this woman was given a second chance at love and happiness. I remember saying "See ya next time" Life is so precious and also so fragile. My heart goes out to Phyllis and the family. Book club will NEVER be the same without Doug. I will miss him a great deal. with heartfelt sympathies, Cindy Peters

Phyllis, Just hearing of Doug's passing has made this day sad. Although I have only known you both for a short time, i felt like Doug would have become a dear friend. The Olean book club was never livlier than when Doug "expressed" his opinions. May his memory be a blessing. You are in my prayers and thoughts.
